Donation Dive: Traversing the Streets of Hyderabad

On the 26th and 31st of December 2018, Pratisandhi Hyderabad took to the slums of Miyapur and the Chenchu tribes of Srisailam for the first and second halves of their donation drive. In both the areas, the young and the old are struggling to lead hygienic lives.

Our team interacted with residents about hygiene and conducted an information session on how to keep their bathrooms and houses sanitary and how that can prevent them from contracting various illnesses.

The team then educated the women of the area about menstrual hygiene, using sanitary napkins instead of cloth, and how taking needful medication for cramps can make their menstrual cycle more smooth-sailing. The team also demonstrated how to correctly use pads along with their disposal.

Another topic covered was that of STDs, unsafe sex, and taking care of one’s body and health. The residents listened with utmost concentration and were very interactive and out-spoken about their doubts and concerns. Male residents also took enthusiastic participation when discussing contraceptive measures and family planning.

The children and their families were also apprised about issues surrounding harassment and abuse that prevails in the society and how to tackle these problems at community and individual levels. All participants were keen listeners and paid attention to all that was being said and later shared their struggles and difficulties with the team.

Finally, the team later distributed clothes, sanitary napkins, and condoms which were collected during the donation drive. The families were grateful for their new clothes and hygiene products and rejoiced among themselves!
