SPYM Shelter: Decoding Menstrual Hygiene

On 20th August 2018, our team of volunteers, in collaboration with ITL Public School, visited the SPYM Shelter in Raja Garden. During this visit, out team along with the students oriented women staying at the shelter about important issues such as vaginal discharge, menstrual hygiene, and safe sex.

In addition to this, we interacted with the enthusiastic women about the challenges they face during menstruation and the popular myths that continue to follow them around at the local level. After a demonstration on how to use and dispose sanitary napkins, each woman was given a supply of menstrual hygiene products which would cover them for a period of five- six months.

It is not sufficient to simply support those in need, but to empower and educate them so that they are able to sustain themselves for longer periods.
