Speaking up About “That Time of the Month”
On 7th December 2018, our volunteer Simran Nanda visited the female students at Akshay Pratishthan School, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi. Female students of classes V, VI and VII grade attended the discussion.
The workshop initiated with a short briefing to the students on the theme and topics for the same. The session continued on to cover a variety of dimensions of Menstruation and Menstrual hygiene i.e understanding the process of menstruation, how to use a sanitary napkin, sanitary hygiene, and addressing all questions around it. The module was very interactive and the students were enthusiastic and eager to learn about every topic discussed.
The workshop also addressed questions and concerns such as vaginal discharge, managing symptoms of PMS, debunking social taboos around menstruation prevalent in society, to name a few.
The workshop was overall successful and received gracious and positive feedback from not just the host school but all attendees. Finally, a donation of sanitary products was donated towards the school’s medical department for the upkeep of hygiene standards for all female students.
